Founder’s Story

Founder Lori Cox, who herself was raised in and out of the foster care system and experienced two failed adoptions before finding her forever home at the age of 15, understands the challenges that families face with the teens in their care. Having also adopted her oldest child when he was 16, she understands the issues, lack of resources, and lack of knowledge needed to help families succeed.

Lori has volunteered in the community as a public speaker and trainer, educating parents on her story, what families might expect when bringing a child into their home, and providing parents with knowledge and tools to help them be successful with teens in their care.

Her career in research, higher education, non-profit leadership and her understanding of both sides of the issues has led to the launch of Foster and Adopt Success. By providing education, support, resources and opportunities for families, she hopes to lessen the amount of disruption these children often experience, and provide families with tools to help them succeed as a family together.

Our Journey

Line Break

At Foster and Adopt Success, we are committed to addressing the needs of our families and communities by continuously asking them what they need to be successful, and then providing it through respected resources or building the services ourselves.

The teenage years are critical for families who adopt or foster children. It is during this phase that many disruptions to stable living situations occur. Even families who have adopted children from a young age encounter challenges during the teenage years that may surpass those faced by families with biological children. Sadly, these difficulties often lead to family breakdown at a higher rate compared to other periods. Foster and Adopt Success aims to change this trend by offering education, training, support groups, coaching, resources, and eventually clinical services tailored to the challenges faced by these families.

Founder Lori Cox conducted focus groups with foster and adoptive parents, identifying their highest needs. These areas will be our initial focus before moving forward with the clinIc. We understand that parents require support in various aspects, including but not limited to:

Our Goals And Timeline

We officially began the formation of Foster and Adopt Success on January 1st, 2023, following preliminary board meetings in September 2022. Our primary focus is on serving families who currently have children between the ages of 10 and 19, whether they are currently in foster care or were adopted at any point in life. We aim to provide education, resources, networking family events, and support groups to help these families thrive.

Our goal is to have these initial services up and running between late fall  of 2023 and early spring of 2024.

In mid 2024 we will subsequently expand our services to include coaching for individuals and families and explore the establishment of a respite care program  for early teens by late 2024.

Ultimately our goal is to fund a clinic with specialized behavioral, and comprehensive mental health care for this population and their families.  We will explore launching a capital campaign to move ahead with this project by the fall of 2024.
